It must be all of five minutes since the last time the "Silva lining" pun was dragged out kicking & screaming into the sunlight, and we here at WTPS Towers are happy to dust it off. Again.
The mercurial World Cup-winner gets the big thumbs-up from club skipper Carlos Tevez, whose exclusive interview on CityTV continues to provide material to the national scribes.
The Mirror's David McDonnell gives Carlos' generous words a touch of Graeme Swann-esque tweak ahead of the derby:
"While all the focus will be on former United striker Tevez - who has 20 goals already this season - when he returns to his old club on Saturday lunchtime, the City skipper has identified Silva as the man Sir Alex Ferguson and his players should fear.
"Tevez believes Spain World Cup-winner Silva, who joined from Valencia for £24million last summer, is the best player City have signed since billionaire owner Sheikh Mansour's takeover turned them into the world's richest club overnight.
"With 49 goals in 70 appearances, Tevez himself could lay claim to being the finest signing of the Mansour era, but the Argentina international, who has thrived on the service from and creative guile of Silva, isn't having that.
'I think that David is the best signing we've made,' said Tevez. 'David is the type of player who can win you the game. He can provide you with the sort of pass that puts you through one on one with the keeper.'"
Over at the Express, Richard Tanner has quotes from Silva himself, who reckons that City are on the launching pad to greater things:
"David Silva has warned Manchester United they will be sharing the Champions League spotlight with cross-town rivals City next season.
"Spain international Silva believes City will finish in the Premier League’s top four to earn qualification for Europe’s money-spinning elite club competition for the first time.
'...A good first season for me would be to qualify for the Champions League or to win a trophy,” he said. “We will fight for the league title all the way and try to win the other competitions but the target is to finish in the top four.
'Within two or three years it will be normal for City to be playing in the Champions League every year.'
The Star revisits Patrick Vieira's assertion that Carlos Tevez is as good as Thierry Henry, which eagled-eyed mcfc.co.uk users first read here on January 19, and is one of several papers to quote Joe Hart.
It is claimed the goalie has "fanned the flames" ahead of the Big One on Saturday by responding to claims that David May will be partying to celebrate 35 years since City's last trophy. Call the fire brigade!
