De Jong happy to stay Blue for rest of his career

Nigel de Jong has admitted he would be happy to spend the rest of his career with City.

In a revealing interview in the February issue of ManC – the club’s official monthly magazine (out February 7) - De Jong says he wants to remain a City player for many years – and would be willing to finish his playing days with the Blues.

“You never know what the future may bring, but I can’t ever see myself leaving this club,” said the 26-year-old Dutch midfielder.

“City have done so much for me as a player and a person over the last two years and now the plan is to be successful for a long time to come. So yeah, I could see myself staying here for the rest of my career.”

Since joining from Hamburg in January 2009, De Jong has become a firm favourite with the City fans to his consistently high performance and commitment levels.

He also says he will be happy to join his legion of admirers in a chorus of ‘Oh when, De Jong goes sliding in’ – but only when there is something to celebrate together.

“I love the song!” he said. “It’s always great to have the appreciation of fans because it shows that you’re working hard and doing well.

"When we get to Wembley in a final, I might give the fans a verse of it myself!" said De Jong.

One thing Nigel does lack on his City CV is a goal. With 84 appearances under his belt with the Blues, he smiles at the mention of his failure to break his duck – though he came mighty close to ending that unwanted statistic when his low shot cracked the post against Aston Villa last Saturday.

“I’m getting closer, but to score a goal for City will be brilliant, but I’ve not thought that far ahead!” he joked. “I’m sure it will be special when it does happen, though I haven’t got a celebration planned, even though I’ve had plenty of time to think about it.”
