Mancini calls for City to spend

Roberto Mancini saw Manchester City clinch automatic qualification to the group stages of the Champions League and immediately demanded a fresh injection of cash.

Mancini has shelled out huge sums on star names like Yaya Toure, David Silva and Edin Dzeko since taking charge and the reward is a place in Europe's premier club competition and FA Cup glory.

The club's aim is Premier League and Champions League glory and Mancini has made it clear that only an injection of fresh quality will achieve that.

"We want to buy other players to improve because we need it," Mancini said. "In football you can spend a lot of money but you're not sure if you win.

"If you don't spend you won't win. Football is strange but if you buy good players and work hard you can win.

"It's been a fantastic season but now we have 40 days to buy players who can help us improve."
