Luis Suarez says it is far too early in his Liverpool career for him to be labelled an Anfield hero despite his impressive start to life in England.
Suarez has registered two goals in the Premier League since his arrival from Ajax and he was instrumental in the club's 3-1 victory over Manchester United earlier in March.
The striker has lifted spirits around Anfield with his performances after the acrimonious departure of Fernando Torres, who left for Chelsea in a £50 million deal on transfer deadline day in January.
The 24-year-old has been an instant hit with fans starved of excitement this season but accepts he still has plenty to do before he will be happy with the adulation he is receiving.
''I've only been here just over a month and a half and it's good to see the fans are happy,'' he told LFC Weekly. "I came here to work hard for the team and to do my absolute best.
''I think the fans at this club play a major role - bigger than at some other clubs. But there are a lot of games and there is a lot of time to go before I am a real hero. It's too early for that.''
Suarez's fellow January arrival Andy Carroll has also been warmly received by fans who hope their partnership can propel them towards fifth place - and European qualification - this season and greater feats in the coming years.
The club's £35 million record signing is still working his way back to full fitness after a two-month lay-off with a thigh problem. He is set for only his second senior England cap in the friendly against Ghana but there has already been much debate about whether he should join Stuart Pearce's Under-21s for their European Championships appearance in Denmark this summer.
It is a prospect which Liverpool are not keen on and one which has been roundly criticised by former Reds striker John Aldridge. ''It's an absolute joke and common sense has to prevail,'' he told the Liverpool Echo.
''I'm not a fan of Pearce but this idea of his really is ridiculous. The Under-21s is there as a stepping stone to the senior squad and Carroll has already made that step up. Carroll has had a bad injury this season which took a long time to heal after his move to Anfield from Newcastle in January.
''What he really needs is a decent rest this summer. If he gets that then both Liverpool and England will reap the benefits of that as he will be firing on all cylinders next season. It's vital Fabio Capello and the club managers work together. The England boss needs their support but he isn't going to get that by placing unnecessary demands on their players.''
